Slightly soggy for the arrival of the Finns

There was rain last night but I was expecting it to be a washout for the Early Walk. It was drier than expected although still cloudy but not cold. I walked all of the dogs around twice so that we might abort if it began to rain. I left Luis, Charlie and Oskar and did another circuit with Skinny, Fido, Obi and Isabella. We then did a Victory Lap together and I let them off to run around. It was beginning to drizzle as we walked back and came on to rain properly just after we entered the van. I let the dogs stay in whilst I had a cup of tea and read some emails on my laptop. There was too much rain for running and the roads would be too wet in any case.

The rain eventually eased off and the sky cleared to leave a little sunshine. Xanthippos was fretting about the key to the workshop and we eventually discovered it in a food bowl. Apparently, his brother came to the camping the previous evening and seemed to know where it was hidden…

I prepared some breakfast and the morning unfolded. Georgia was in the camping inspecting progress on the conversion project and said she hoped to have it finished in January. The next big thing is for the window frames and glazing to be installed and there is a company assigned to do that.

My exercise routine was put out by the rain so I made up for it with a series of shorter walks as follows: Isabella and Fido, Isabella and Luis, Isabella and Skinny. Fido and Isabella found a rotting carcass on Alonáki Beach and Isabella was not at all pleased when I separated her from it. Fido was a good boy and did as he was told. The Luis and Isabella walk was less eventful than the previous despite the fact Luis was off the lead. Skinny was mostly absent for his walk preferring to devour a dead seabird on Alonáki Beach. Peter was out for a stroll and caught us up so we continued together. Isabella, as you can imagine is quite tired!

The Finns arrived around 15:00 and are parked at the top of the camping. They have a Hymer which is their third van in the three years they have been leading a van life. They started off small and gradually acquired larger vans. They have no home in Finland only a camping pitch which they occupy during the summer. The winters are too long and depressing to remain all year round.

Skinny has had an active day as he was not tied up after the Early Walk. He’s hopped over the fence a couple of times but is never very far away. He’s either standing at the gate waiting to be let back in or comes back with me when he finds me in the camping. He’s not quite worked out that he needs to be more compliant to enjoy more freedom. He just keeps jumping over the fence! So long as he doesn’t chase the sheep in the adjacent field, all is fine.

The Evening Walk was equally uneventful and only Obi was kept on the lead. Skinny managed to return to the collection point however he rather ruined it by jumping over the fence as soon as I let him off in the camping. He came back when I went out after him but that’s not the point. The walk was a rapid affair as more rain and thunder is forecast for tonight and tomorrow. There is a storm approaching as can be seen below.

The approaching storm at 19:00. I think the bulk of it will pass to the north but it doesn’t matter as we’ll be inside.

The wind is mostly from the south so those by the beach will be lulled off to sleep tonight. I’m sitting out to write my blog as it’s still warm enough although breezy with the door open. It’s coming on to rain so I’ll shut the door and call it a day.

It’s raining rather harder now! Time for some food methinks.
