Going back in time

I entertained myself yesterday evening watching the pilot episode of Open All Hours with a very young David Jason. I followed that with the initial episode of Porridge and then season one episode two of Spooks. I really needed Dr Who and the Daleks to round it off but might not have coped with all the wobbly scenery and low-tech effects. I went to bed later than the previous night even though I was to be getting up earlier.

It was an early start due to the hour change but I was awake and ready to go. The dogs initially appeared less than enthusiastic. IZO barked only a little as we passed the Monster Truck at the entrance to the Promontory. The sky was very clear at the outset however it clouded over gradually. I was able to make out Jupiter, Mars and Saturn to begin with at least. We completed two laps with everyone then went back to the camping. The three of us set off for the second group of two laps and we went back yet again. This time, Skinny joined the others who were listening to the news, I fed Isabella and the cats. It was still quite dark. Darker than I’d expected it to be. Silly really, as I just didn’t think about it properly. I changed into my running stuff then Isabella and I set off for the third visit to the Promontory. In all, we completed eight or maybe nine laps of the Promontory which amounted to 9.5km which is more than yesterday but then, some of it wasn’t counted yesterday due to technical problems.

It was light when we returned and I went straight off for a shower before making a cup of tea and my breakfast and letting out the other dogs. Isabella had already devoured her half rawhide bone.

The morning started quite warm and sunny however it clouded over as expected. There were plenty of sunny spells and it was very pleasant out on the decking which was scattered with sleeping dogs. Xanthippos came into work as I could make out distant banging and the occasional bout of angle grinder as he cut up the metal corner pieces he’s riveting to the showers.

There were few remarkable events during the remainder of the day. The dogs spent time in and out of the sun as conditions changed. I went to sleep as I was warm and comfortable and had woken up earlier than usual due to the hour change. I did some stuff with computers, wrote emails, read the Sunday papers, wandered around and petted the pussies who joined me when I walked out into the field.

Xanthippos came to see that we were all still alive and we conversed briefly. There’s no hurry for him to finish the work so not much point in rushing. His words and those of Georgia so he informed me.

The sky is a lot greyer, the westerly wind is a lot cooler and the weather more unsettled as it will be for the next couple of days. At one point, we nearly made it to 20℃. At present, moisture is predicted for early Tuesday morning. I’m hoping the weather will prove the forecast incorrect as everything has warmed up and dried out since the last rainy period. Certainly, the temperatures are to remain warm which is a bonus.

I wandered down the camping during the afternoon just to make sure the sea was still present. The beach was deserted, the Monster Truck still in position in the Alonáki Beach car park and someone was standing in the sea about to set off for a swim. The only active visible sign of life. I wandered back to the dogs and the afternoon rumbled on. I might just possibly have fallen asleep again…

The dogs have been fed and Isabella is systematically devouring a cardboard box as I don’t feed her enough. I could never feed her enough. My supper was prepared before I starting writing and feeding the dogs so should soon be ready for me to eat it. The temperature is dropping so I can foresee the requirement to withdraw within in the very near future. Georgia’s dogs are barking at something which is probably a lady walking along Grammeno Beach. There should be no one in the camping as all the gates are shut and locked. Anyone else is an intruder. There was a visit from Manolis Georgia’s brother. I saw his pickup come into the camping, the dogs barked and a little while later he left. The purpose of his visit was unknown to me.

Apart from the burst of walking and running activity first thing, it’s been a very lazy but pleasant Sunday afternoon, as the song goes…
