Skinny to the rescue!

Sitting eating my supper and watching something interesting, I was suddenly interrupted by a horrid pussy event outside. It sounded as though terrible things were occurring so I leapt to my feet to have a look. Skinny was inside the van so off his long line. All 18kg of him sneaked out without me knowing as I walked along the decking towards the gate into the field below. The yowling continued but Skinny was not deterred by the fence or the drop down the other side. He jumped from the decking, clearing the fence with ease before disappearing into the very prickly undergrowth towards the source of the fracas. The noise stopped immediately to be replaced by the sound of Skinny investigating the undergrowth. He seemed happy in his work and it began to drizzle, so I went back inside. At bedtime, I reckoned I’d have to go in search of Skinny only to find him waiting patiently by the field gate. He followed me back into the main compound where I lead him back inside the van. Excitement over…

I was without a doubt less than enthusiastic about getting out of bed despite having been awake on and off since 03:00 after letting Fido outside for a pee. The wind was blowing hard and it was cold. Bed seemed a great option! Skinny came to put paid to that by plonking his front paws onto the side of the bed and his nose in my ear. He is the only one tall enough to do that. I gave in, got up and begrudgingly stumbled out of the door to find my socks and put on my Dog Walking Boots. Isabella and Obi, who were outside all night, were ready to go, whilst the others were still in the van. We were on our way towards the road where the Czech van was still parked but parallel to the sea due to the northerly wind. Both walks were duplicates of the day before.

Having fed the cats, I set off on my bike for a shopping expedition to Petrakis to acquire stocks of chicken and rice. My latest instructions from Stavros were to continue this for the next week before transitioning to special dry food. I bought two lots of rice and chicken and a lovely cauliflower for me amongst other items. The road was blocked by an excavator as I arrived in Paleochora so I obediently took the diversion which goes over a very long, rough road winding up a few metres from Petrakis. With full bags, I wasn’t up for that so skirted around the diversion barriers to play dodgems with the machines. I was not alone as the exasperated man stood with the barrier at the other end of the roadworks would testify.

The wind was behind me so I made good time back to the camping, at least over the tarmacked or less rough sections of road. The last stretch near the camping is undergoing massive remodelling so requires careful navigation.

I fed the dogs rice and Isabella rice and chicken. There were a few vegetables sneaked in there too. I noticed all the veg was eaten in the same way as this evening. They seem to be getting the hang of the vegetable experience.

Xanthippos came to tell me the police were out in force checking people who were moving around and writing plenty of tickets. He seemed to be in no hurry to leave today but didn’t actually do much/any productive work during his visit. One of the cats managed to knock the large UPS (backup battery device – nothing to do with United Parcel Service) off the shelf in the storeroom which naturally cut off the power to the devices in the wall box outside. I clambered up the conveniently-placed ladder to reinstate the UPS which had harmlessly fallen onto the palm leaves beneath the shelf. Still a mystery – but Xanthippos finally departed…

I got on with doing Internet/domain-related tasks for Inter Sport but then may have fallen asleep. Later, I went for a wander around the camping ending up in the other chair on Janne and Erica’s decking. Very soon after, three cats arrived so we enjoyed a short love-in before I left for other important work.

I finished off the cable to the Workshop (South) WiFi access point and have now joined that back to the network. There is still the one at reception to rewire and the one in Georgia’s house to check out. The latter is more complicated as I have to get her dogs removed first. If she comes to stay next week, she will soon notice the lack of Internet access so will be very accommodating in order to get it fixed.

The dogs have been amusing themselves as I’ve been writing embarking various items and blankets outside. They will doubtless follow me when I go inside in a few moments.
