Picadilly!

It was a little cooler in the night but still nearly 22℃ at 04:30. I had another night with the fan and little mosquito annoyance. I passed the postman yesterday and asked if he had mail for Grammeno but he replied he had none. I’m still waiting for my anti-bug tent which I’m assured has made it as far as Greece.

There were cars in the beach car park which didn’t bode well for our walk. There were three separate groups of FreeLoaders in different locations which made it quite difficult for me to avoid them whilst walking around with the dogs. That said, it was a wonderful morning with the vestige of a moon hanging in the sky. One group of FreeLoaders wasn’t asleep and was making music which was very atmospheric. We managed a reasonable walk then wandered up Alonáki Beach a little way just to finish off. The slower group were satisfied with this so went into the van for a snooze. I left them with the fan to keep them cool.

I thought Skinny, Isabella and I could investigate something a little different so we set off up Alonáki Beach then turned inland to the ‘main’ road. We encountered one dog which was not too vocal considering it was now 06:15. I took the two of them up the service track which passes a concrete production plant and some enclosed storage. There is also an olive grove and loads of scrap vehicles and spares. We walked on expecting to see loads of goats which is why I’ve not gone up there with the dogs in the past. We walked about 2.5km up the river then went back to Grammeno via the beach and under the road bridge on the dried-up river bed. It’s slightly soggier down below where the water comes to the surface and it meets the sea.

I deposited Skinny, fed the cats, watered the plants and took off my boots. I took Isabella to the eastern end of Grammeno Beach where I went for a swim and she for a potter. After the initial coolness of the water, it became very pleasant as I gradually swam up and down parallel to the beach. I got out and we started back towards the camping via the field. There was a small dog on the beach so Isabella engaged in a little friendly chasing about while I looked on.

I left Isabella and took my bike to retrace the earlier route and to see if the access road had been repaired further up. It was pretty much the same as during my previous visit shortly after my bike arrived. The trip up the river bank is around 10km including the bit of road between the camping and the bridge.

It was getting warmer so I went back to let out the dogs, feed them and make breakfast. I lost some time and then my breakfast was ready.

The day passed by with no callers just a few emails and other stuff.

It’s been quite warm with a top temperature of 35.3℃ as it’s gradually cooling down towards the end of the week where we are to expect highs of 24 ℃ although I expect the temperature will be a little higher.

There have been no other highlights other than to make doggy dinners for tonight and tomorrow which I did after I’d prepared my breakfast. There is quite a little doggy anticipation especially from the youngest member of the Pack.

I am now sweet-smelling and the dogs are less hungry. Skinny is jousting with Isabella on the decking in a confined sort of way as he’s managed to tie his line around one of the legs of the decking having spent time under there. Between them, they are systematically demolishing the orange blanket which is simply a matter of joining up the holes. All of the heavier doggy blankets are surplus to requirements and need me to wash them then put them away for the summer.
