New food for Isabella

The elephants were on the decking at 03:00. I was displeased so told them this. I wasn’t late to bed last night so waking up a little early wasn’t too much of a problem. I managed to get back to sleep quickly and the elephants were, themselves asleep when it came to getting-up time. There was a little wind and, at one point, I was even considering a light fleece but was walking over the field when I remembered. It wasn’t cold anyway.

We all walked around to the top of the Promontory then I took Skinny and Isabella with Fido and Obi for a trip round swapping them for Luis, Fido and Oskar the next time round. Fido made such a fuss you might have thought he was going to be deserted! After this lap we went back to the camping as 05:45 was approaching.

The second walk included Fido. We went down Alonáki Beach and kept going until we ran out of beach. There comes a point where progress can be made only on the road and there is no footway. It’s the tricky bit where the road is adjacent to the sea and there’s a rocky cliff on the other side. From the east, the road has been completed to nearby. At present, the road from the west is progressing eastwards past the place with the rooms but has a straight section to complete before also arriving near to the narrow point. I suspect the narrow bit is going to take a little longer to complete as I’m not sure if anyone quite knows what to do. If the plan involves demolishing the cliff it’s going to be quite a task as there’s a lot of cliff and potentially more to fall down from above.

We walked back up the beach and to the camping. I made my breakfast as I planned to go into Paleochora to see Heike about some different food for Isabella. Her special diet food has almost run out and, at €90 for 12kg it’s not going to be her normal diet. I feed it to her as well as the food I cook for all of the dogs. She’s growing and needs to make up for lost time due to the Pancreatitis. Once she’s finished growing I’ll reconsider the situation. Heike offered me two low-fat complete dog foods so I bought 10kg to try it out. There is still a little of the other remaining, enough for one day, then it’s the other stuff. I suspect she will simply guzzle it down like the other and then I’ll get a full 20kg bag of the food.

The remainder of the day turned out quite busy with the reinstallation of an EG laptop and a website not working. Simon had a flaky data file on his computer so I’ve been kept busy.

It was breezy as I rode back this morning so I was glad to have a motor to share the work. With 10kg of food on the back and no motor, the return would have been hard work against the wind and over the rough road.

As the day progressed, it became windier gusting over 50km/h but it’s been sunny with a high of 27.4℃ so plenty warm enough.

I had a mosquito-free sleep: even though I could hear one somewhere about – I didn’t care. More attention is required to get into and out of bed so as not to pull the ‘tent’ down and I feel some adjustments may be required in the fullness of time. At least I can sleep with the window open near my bed and create a through draught if required.

The first half of my supper, which involves lentils and beetroot is ready so it’s just a matter of popping the last of the cauliflower and a pepper into the pot for a couple of minutes and we’re done!
