SunBlockers to the fore!

The baton was passed back to Fido who needed a wee somewhere around 03:00 to my great joy. Skinny, Charlie, Obi and Isabella had elected to remain outside as had Oskar who grabbed the opportunity to return within as Fido went out. It was not long before Fido got me up again to come back in. If it’s not one, it’s another!

The Early Walks were a near copy of the previous day and were confined to the Promontory. This time it was Charlie who joined us for the second walk as Isabella’s chaperone. There were some cars in the car park when we went back so I delayed releasing Charlie until we reached the end of the Promontory. He and Isabella played energetically whilst Skinny and I engaged in more intellectual pursuits involving Skinny digging his way into a small cave under the rocks. He was on the long lead so I wondered what might happen if he became hooked up on something which prevented him from getting out of his little cave. He was only a little tangled as he emerged and seemed happy with his work. From the lagoon, we continued over the rocks then followed the west side of the Promontory back to the car park. I’d taken the precaution of attaching the other training collar to Charlie as he is regularly overcome by deafness on the way back to the camping often resulting in him disappearing down Alonáki Beach for extended periods. This is just annoying if I’m trying to get out as I don’t wish to leave him wandering at will during my absence. He now knows that failure to comply in a reasonable time leads to increasing persuasion.

The three dogs were returned to the compound and I went to Petrakis to stock up on fruit and some vlita as it looked good. It’s somewhat less so now as the warm weather hasn’t done it any favours. It will be even less happy after some time in the Pot.

I went to see if there were any dogs in the PAWS village to find it deserted. My next waypoint was the end of the harbour and then back to Grammeno via the DownTown area and over the hill just to see what they were getting up to.

The roadworks have progressed out onto the open section of straight road. There was a lot of roller activity yesterday as I could feel the vibrations through my feet whilst seated in the camping! Much of the road has been dressed and rolled resulting in a less lunar surface and more comfortable riding.

I fed dogs, cats, myself and unpacked my purchases before getting on with a little work. I had a lengthy chat with Janne as I’d sent him a text warning him of the possibility of works commencing adjacent to our plots on the other side of the fence. I felt he might not thank me if he found the next door field full of earth-moving equipment when he and Erica arrived next. He said they might come during the second week of September for three weeks.

It was warm today with a high of 31.8℃ so not the hottest day of the year. The sun’s intensity is increasing so I have deployed the southern and westerly SunBlockers and reinstated the larger fan which cools via water evaporation. I have plenty of electricity and water so it’s churning away happily right now. I fixed up some of the rings used to secure the guys to the decking as they were simple eyes screwed into the wood. The SunBlockers help to reduce the intensity of the sun and the reflected light from the decking. The fan is working but would benefit from a tidier installation. There is a hosepipe attached to the device’s tank to supply water and the power trails around the outside of the awning tent. I need to think of something better as this is not the most elegant installation.

The restaurant cameras inform me that Georgia is back in the camping and that the staff have had a meal. There do not appear to be many cars in the car parks so far but then anyone travelling from Chania or further afield after school and work would arrive comparatively late.

The evening activities have been completed so it’s just a question of my supper and we’re done!
