Maria’s looking well

I even dragged a sheet over me at 04:00 as I was feeling just slightly chilly. It’s been a long while since I’ve done that. It was cooler but very still as we ambled across the field and onto the road. There were cars but we encountered no FreeLoaders on the Promontory. I gathered the dogs up for a quicker pace as it was cooler. Given their own choice they tend to spend too much time distracted by every smell or horrid item they come across. We completed our circuits then went back for the second walk.

I couldn’t find the other collar anywhere but had a suspicion it might still be on Charlie from the previous day. He’d gone up behind the dashboard flat area so was not easily accessible so I left it. Isabella still had a collar which was the main thing. Oskar and Fido came out today leaving Luis behind. He doesn’t really like it if Fido goes and he’s left behind as I discovered later. We were halfway across the field when Luis started creating a racket. Isabella was already on the beach and Skinny, Oskar and Fido were raring to go. We waited but the racket continued. I whistled Isabella back and we turned around for the camping. I hooked the dogs to the fence and went in to deal with Luis who’d been in full flood! He gathered quite quickly that I was less than amused and had tried to retreat onto the area occupied by Charlie so he had no escape. I grabbed him firmly and transported him rapidly to one of the dog houses with a reliable door where he was locked in with an ultrasonic anti-bark device outside the door. We left: he was silent…

Take two! The French motorhome was replaced by a Greek one yesterday and it was still there today. Other vehicles were scattered about but the occupants were still in occupation so inconsequential. A lone car was parked at the furthest end of the road however I didn’t see any signs of anyone camping on the other side of the river valley until I’d let go of Oskar and Fido. Fortunately, the dogs were well behaved and came away when I whistled Isabella. Two more bodies were to be found on loungers at Azzurro kantina. We passed without incident. Continuing past Plakaki Hotel onto Plakaki Beach there was no one until almost the end of the walk. We diverted onto the road to avoid the FreeLoaders whose property was liberally scattered around. We reached our goal having stepped back down to beach level via a sloping access from a makeshift parking area above. Taking the same route back, we encountered the aforementioned as they’d decided to go out in their car. The dogs waited until the FreeLoaders were out of the way and we continued back. I didn’t fancy passing Azzurro again so we diverted up past the hotel onto the road for a little while. It won’t be so bad once it’s finished but now it’s a bit of a nightmare.

Luis was quiet when we arrived back and I put the others into the van and went for a swim. The conditions were similar to the day before with fewer wavelets and it seemed warmer although it might have been my imagination. I think I was alone in that bit of sea.

I washed off with the hosepipe then set off for Krios. The battery on my bike was quite low so I needed to be parsimonious with the power. Gregor and dogs had been at Krios some while and he commented as such. I’d lost track of the time and he was right. With playing hunt the collar, messing about with Luis and various diversions the walk had taken much longer this morning. We chatted and I petted the dogs who are completely soppy. We left at the same time and I had just enough battery to make it back to the camping without disappearing into the red.

I was intercepted by Litsa whose camera and Internet were not working. There had been a scheduled power outage for some maintenance activity earlier so I went to the office to restart the router. She now had Internet but still no camera. I restarted the camera and off it went. Her nephew was there with his son who was having breakfast. The nephew was an interesting, intelligent chap who spoke and understood English well. The son slurped his breakfast down.

Maria was floating around at reception as I went back later since four CCTV cameras were offline and Georgia was fussing. I restarted the USG (Security Gateway) and went back to my van as I’d forgotten my phone so couldn’t check on the app! It transpired that the power outage had affected the switches in the reception and the bar so restarting them solved the crisis. I sneaked down to the bar undercover so as not to be intercepted again.

On one of my visits to the reception I managed a conversation with Maria where we talked about Chia seeds and how best to eat them. It seems that Maria is attempting to eat a healthier diet which includes oats, almond milk and tahini. I suggested she might add more fruit to balance it out a little.

My breakfast was ready so I eventually got to eat it around lunchtime. Not that I was particularly hungry anyway.

The remainder of the day has been taken up with boring technical stuff to do with the USG as I was learning new stuff about networking and command line access to the USG. There is a pretty web interface on the controller however one can dig a lot deeper by using the SSH command line stuff which is more informative and efficient once you know the commands and how to use it. I found time for Doggy Dinners so am surrounded by suitably fed doggies.

I’ll be glad when I have a replacement ceiling fan as the flies are annoying and numerous.

That’s about it for another, not at all lazy, Sunday.
