Happy Birthday, Mummy!

I took down the SunBlocker before going to bed as the wind seemed to be increasing and changing direction. The forecast had initially talked about thunderstorms in the early hours with rain beginning around 05:00. Just the wrong time as far as I’m concerned as early morning is when I get out and exercise myself and the dogs.

The reality was completely different for, other than a few distant lightning flashes and an absence of moonlight, the weather was fine if overcast. The sea was pretty excitable on both sides with sizeable waves on the Grammeno side and water much higher on the Alonáki side. An umbrella, usually well away from the shore was surrounded by water.

The Promontory walk was reasonable however the dogs are always a little scatty when there’s thunder around. There was light through the clouds by the time we arrived at the river valley to find VGD on duty by the compound gate. I now release all of the dogs here so that they can have a good sniffing session but there’s no growling or barking.

We were back down to the shore and walked up the middle of the beach due to the vigorous sea and not wishing for wet feet. We continued on to the Promontory going right to the end where the sea was crashing over the rocks. We needed to dodge the waves as we passed over the west side to go back.

The dogs were ahead of me as we walked over the Big Beach so there was a slightly startled man who encountered them all at once. Quite a daunting experience if you don’t happen to know them I suppose. I called them to me and they came over leaving the man to continue his walk.

I went on a ride to Krios but Gregor and his dogs were nowhere to be seen so I left immediately as I wanted to walk around the camping.

Simon, the Swiss man with the three young sons, was in the water with his eldest. They were both enjoying the waves and the rough sea. I brought the sunbeds up the beach and stacked them in pairs in case the wind freshened. The Swiss couple who’d arrived the previous afternoon left early so Simon told me as they’d moved their van close to and blocking the entrance to the beach. I can’t say I’m too sorry to see them go.

I made breakfast having fed the dogs.

The day has been warm and sunny with less wind and hence quieter sea. There have been a few arrivals, two single women, one with a car and roof tent, the other a walker who’d come from Elafonissi and is in Z2. The other arrivals were a young Swiss family in a camper van with their two sons. I put them next to the other Swiss family, the Greek girl and the German family. There are holidays in Switzerland at the moment but this family are travelling for several months so have plenty of time.

The remainder of the day was interrupted by a load or two of washing and fooling around with the customer spreadsheet. We have to take more information so I’ve adapted the spreadsheet and changed it to produce a list of customer phone numbers and address details.

I fed the dogs early as I was going out to Third Eye with Janne and Erica for a meal. They discovered today that their flight has been brought forward by twelve hours meaning they will leave early Friday morning rather than fly Friday night. This effectively takes one day from their stay. We had a good meal and came back around 20:30. We were delayed on the outward journey as the road was still closed at 18:15. It didn’t matter as Third Eye opens at 19:00 however they let us in early and we were one of the first to order.

I’m now sitting out on my decking writing. The dogs are ragging around outside quietly and soon we will go in as bedtime approaches.
